What is the difference between heated tobacco and e-cigarettes?

Although heated tobacco products and e-cigarettes are smoke-free alternatives to tobacco, there are important differences in comparing heated tobacco products with electronic tobacco products.

E-cigarettes do not contain tobacco. They heat a liquid (e-liquid) containing nicotine and flavorings to produce an aerosol, which is usually called a vapor - hence the term "vaping".

What's more, in heated tobacco products, nicotine is naturally present in the tobacco used in those products. In comparison, in e-cigarettes, nicotine derived from tobacco is added to the e-liquid for use in the product.
