What is the Difference Between TEREA Tobacco Sticks and HEETS Tobacco Sticks?

Before we explore the differences between TEREA and HEETS, let’s first explain what HEETS sticks are.

So, what are HEETS tobacco sticks? HEETS are tobacco sticks compatible with older, bladed IQOS device generations. The main difference between TEREA sticks and HEETS sticks is that a different type of heating technology is used.  

When inserted in the device, HEETS tobacco sticks are heated via IQOS HeatControl^TM Technology. IQOS HeatControl^TM Technology heats tobacco instead of burning it to deliver the taste of real tobacco. On the other hand, TEREA sticks are heated through IQOS ILUMA’s Smartcore Induction Technology . 

While the heating technologies used for HEETS and TEREA tobacco sticks differ, both heat tobacco rather than burning it. The HeatControlTM technology used with HEETS involves a ceramic sensor blade, located inside the IQOS device. When a HEETS tobacco stick is inserted in the Holder of a compatible IQOS device, the blade heats the tobacco inside. In comparison, the SMARTCORE INDUCTION SYSTEM^TM used with IQOS ILUMA is bladeless. Instead, there's a metal heating element located within each TEREA SMARTCORE stick, which heats the tobacco from within the stick once inserted in an IQOS ILUMA device. 

Can TEREA Tobacco Sticks Be Used With Older IQOS Heated Tobacco Devices?

No, TEREA tobacco sticks can only be used with the IQOS ILUMA heated tobacco device and not with older, bladed IQOS device generations. Similarly, HEETS tobacco sticks cannot be used with an IQOS ILUMA device.  

To ensure the correct tobacco sticks are used during the experience, IQOS ILUMA recognises sticks, accepting only genuine IQOS ILUMA consumables.

How to Use TEREA Tobacco Sticks

Here’s how to best use the TEREA tobacco sticks with your IQOS ILUMA device:  

• Make sure that your IQOS ILUMA device is fully charged by using a compatible Power Adaptor and Charging Cable.
• Gently insert a TEREA tobacco stick into the IQOS ILUMA device. Make sure to insert it the correct way as per the manufacturer's guidelines.   
• Auto-start is activated upon insertion of the TEREA stick, indicated by the first device vibration. One device vibration and slow pulsing lights means the TEREA stick is being heated.  
• When the device vibrates for the second time, the experience is ready to start.  

TEREA sticks are single-use only. When starting a new experience, do not insert a used TEREA stick.

How to Properly Remove TEREA Tobacco Sticks

TEREA tobacco sticks can only be used once, and must be removed and disposed of responsibly after use.  

Once the experience is over, wait for the TEREA stick to cool down before removing it. Remove the TEREA stick by gently pulling it upwards. Once successfully removed, the stick should be disposed of in a general waste bin or as per the manufacturer’s safety guidelines.
